Depending on who you ask, you may get a few different definitions of what visibility means in business, but simply put, visibility refers to how well a business stands out from the competition. Think about the word itself – visibility – it builds off the word “vision”. So, when I ask the question: are you creating visibility for you and your business? I’m essentially asking if people are seeing you; if people even know you and your business exist.

Real visibility starts with a willingness to be vulnerable; to talk about what you really want as a business owner. There’s no way to show up authentically for your business if you don’t have clear goals – a vision for what you want to achieve as a business owner.

For starters, you have to know who YOU are. What are your core values as a business owner? How do you want to make a difference in peoples’ lives? These are all good questions to ask yourself. Before you send that first email, that first invoice, or post that first piece of content, get clear on who you are and how that reflects itself in your business.

This might seem like a no-brainer, but you’d be surprised by how many business owners can’t clearly articulate what they do. They can’t communicate what product or service they offer and what problem their business solves for clients. You should be able to explain this in a sentence or two. Being able to explain your business quickly and easily is one of the best ways to create visibility for your business.

Okay, so once you’ve nailed down who you are and what it is that you do, you’ll then be able to position yourself as an authority in your industry. Why? Because you’ll feel confident. You’ll show up armed with clear goals, values, and offers for your audience. You can then begin to create invaluable content that resonates with your audience in more ways than one, and your audience will begin to trust you and see you as the expert – as their go-to person for information.
