I’m going to cut right to the chase here: Building a sustainable and reputable brand isn’t rocket science. You don’t need to have 1 million followers on Instagram, and you don’t need $1 million to make $1 million.
If you’ve struggled with branding yourself, rest assured that you’re not alone. There are tons of people who don’t know where to start when it comes to branding and marketing, and that’s why my company exists – to help busy entrepreneurs and business owners like yourself better understand branding.
Branding yourself professionally and effectively requires a strategy, vision, and some other key components that I want to go into more detail about in this blog: posting quality content consistently, using strong brand photos, and positioning yourself as the expert.
1. Post quality content consistently
In today’s world, social media reigns supreme. Using social media to boost your visibility and get your brand in front of more people is an excellent way to brand yourself. It’s not the only way, but it’s definitely a beneficial tool.
But it’s not enough to simply post for the sake of posting. There are several examples in life where quality will always outweigh quantity, and social media content is no exception.
When it comes to branding yourself, it’s important that your audience can rely on you to show up consistently (that means not ghosting your account for several weeks and months at a time), but they also want to the content to be valuable, informational, inspirational, or thought-provoking.
If you’re not sure if your social media content is quality, tap a trusted family member or friend for honest feedback. And be sure to check out The 2021 Entrepreneurs’ Guide to Consistent Content That Connects to help you plan your content effectively.
2. Use strong brand photos
People love strong visuals. That’s why it’s so important to make sure the photos you use on your social media platform(s) and website are high-quality.
That means it’s time to ditch the fuzzy selfies and the pixelated photos of your product. Your audience wants to see photos that are crisp, clear, and professional. Quality photos help your brand stand out against the competition and improve your audience’s perception of you and your brand.
Now, I understand that hiring a professional photographer can be expensive. I encourage it when you’re able, but when funds are more limited, there are ways to ensure the photos you take yourself still fit the bill.
I encourage you to invest in good equipment. Search online for a quality camera, purchase good lighting equipment (like a ring light), and brush up on some photo editing skills. Don’t let poor photos be the reason your brand suffers.
3. Position yourself as the expert
Show up and make your audience feel like you know what the heck you’re talking about. People are constantly seeking to get information from other sources, so you want to make sure your audience can come to you for the facts.
No matter your niche, it’s important to educate yourself on industry topics and trends so that you can share that knowledge with your audience. There are several places that people can go for information these days – you want them to come to you first. That’s how you build trust; that’s how you build community; that’s how you brand yourself.
Be sure the information you share with your audience is accurate and relevant. And be confident in your approach. You want to be known as a thought-leader with solutions in your industry.
I hope this has helped to shed some light on how to effectively brand yourself. Again, it’s not impossible, but it does take strategy and vision to execute properly. If marketing and branding aren’t your strong suits, feel free to contact our team by filling out this quick and easy form!
